"Sing" was written by Joe Raposo in 1971 for the TV show Sesame Street. Raposo was one of the staff songwriters on the show and the song became one of the most popular ever on the program being sung in English, Spanish, and even sign language.
The Carpenters heard the song early in 1973, it fitted their image and they felt it could be a hit. The song became their debut single from the album ‘Now & Then’, which released later that year. "Sing" reached No.1 on the US easy listening chart and it became Richard & Karen’s seventh gold single.
Subsequent Sesame Street versions include Lily Tomlin who sang and signed this song to a group of deaf children on Sesame Street in 1975. In 1976, on the eleventh episode of The Muppet Show, guest Lena Horne sang a version and after the hurricane struck Sesame Street in 2001, Big Bird sang "Sing" in celebration of his nest being rebuilt. As an iconic Sesame song, "Sing" was also used to close many of the show's anniversary specials.
Other Carpenters styles
This is a one-off single rhythm complete with intro's/endings/fills & variations written in the style of the song for Yamaha SFF instruments. (Please note this is not a song file - often referred to as a midi file - that refers to and plays only one song. Subject to the chords you play on your instrument this style can be used for many numbers of which Sing is just one).
